{"id":34,"date":"2009-08-02T08:54:51","date_gmt":"2009-08-02T13:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.joycejuster.com\/?p=34"},"modified":"2009-09-11T08:57:48","modified_gmt":"2009-09-11T13:57:48","slug":"tiger-woods-and-his-golf-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.joycejuster.com\/thoughts\/?p=34","title":{"rendered":"Tiger Woods and His Golf Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our children need to know that disappointments, problems, failures are bound to happen, they are inevitable, and that is part of life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-94\" style=\"padding-left: 10px\" title=\"sand trap\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joycejuster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/sand-trap.jpg\" alt=\"sand trap\" width=\"120\" height=\"180\" align=\"right\" \/>The box problems come in, the way we think about problems is, \u201cthere is something wrong with me\u201d or \u201cthis shouldn\u2019t have happened, I\u2019m dumb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let your adolescent know: Feelings are not facts and self-critical thoughts are not facts. Problems and failures don\u2019t mean anything negative about us or that there is something wrong with us of that failure shouldn\u2019t have happened.\u00a0 Tiger Woods is the best golfer in history and his golf ball will sometimes go into a sand trap.\u00a0 Sometimes he might have aimed it there because his stance was off or his concentration; sometimes he didn\u2019t aim it there but the wind took it there.\u00a0 <!--more-->Either way, he expects he will sometimes end up in a sand trap or his ball will land in the pond.\u00a0 He knows disappointments are bound to happen.\u00a0 What he also knows is how to get out of the sand trap. And to know how to do that he had to practice being in the sand trap and then practice getting out of the sand trap.\u00a0 There are 4 questions he asks himself:\u00a0 Where am I now?\u00a0 How did I get here?\u00a0 Where do I want to be? How do I get there?<\/p>\n<p>Break it down into small doable steps.\u00a0 Just like there are many different kinds of golf clubs needed for the course, there are many different kinds of strategies and possibilities to get us to our goal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our children need to know that disappointments, problems, failures are bound to happen, they are inevitable, and that is part of life.
